5/7/2023 0 Comments Batman by Jim StarlinWith the conclusion of Batman: Year One and the departure of Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli the plan had been to bring in writer Max Allen Collins to take over the main title. Though his run is best remembered for the death of Jason Todd in the A Death in the Family storyline, the issues leading up to it were great as well as Starlin picked up where Miller left off by writing a hard-boiled Batman who, despite the Gotham he operated in becoming a little darker and violent, was still portrayed as a hero. Like a lot of the great stories during this period Starlin was able to produce iconic moments backed by solid storytelling. Riding the wave of momentum at the time and also making its own contribution to the success was Jim Starlin’s 17 issues on Batman. With classic stories like Year One and The Killing Joke Batman was being redefined for a new generation and the character’s popularity was reaching unseen heights. The late 80s were a great time in comics for the Dark Knight.
